Chris Vergin Bids Farewell to Solar Panel Cleaning Friends Group After Nearly a Decade

with No Comments

After more than six years at the helm of one of the most active online communities in the solar panel cleaning industry, Chris Vergin has officially stepped away from the Solar Panel Cleaning Friends (SPCF) Facebook group. The transition, effective as of June 25, 2025, marks the end of an era and signals a new chapter focused on industry education and media through PV Maintenance Monthly.

The SPCF Facebook group was founded by Vergin on August 23, 2018, during a time when accessible information about solar panel cleaning was scarce. “Back then, I was out on rooftops day after day,” Vergin recalled. “I didn’t have the right gear half the time. I was figuring things out on my own, and I just thought—if I’m this deep into the industry and struggling to find answers, there must be others like me.”

Inspired by his local Escondido Friends Facebook group, Vergin launched SPCF with the goal of creating a community specifically for professional solar panel cleaners across all sectors—residential, commercial, and large-scale utility. What began as a solo cleaner talking into a camera quickly became one of the most trusted and fastest-growing groups in the industry.

From field tips to product insights, tool debates to troubleshooting support, the group became a daily stop for thousands of cleaners. It also gave rise to three influential industry podcasts: Outside the Cleaner’s Box (co-hosted with Louis Moniz), The Solar Panel Cleaning Podcast (with Luis Alfaro, Mike Espinoza, and David Colby), and most recently, Rise and Shine. These podcasts featured roundtable discussions, interviews with top manufacturers and thought leaders, and candid conversations about life in the trade.

In addition to his presence in the group and podcasts, Vergin also co-created the SPCF YouTube channel alongside Mike Espinoza. Together, they filmed countless videos from rooftops, solar farms, and job sites across California—showcasing cleaning techniques, equipment in action, and the daily realities of the work. During that time, Vergin also discovered a passion for video editing that would later shape his creative direction.

But perhaps the most lasting impact of SPCF was its accessibility. Vergin became known for his willingness to answer late-night DMs, talk cleaners through live jobsite issues, and offer guidance to those just getting started. “There are people out there right now with thriving cleaning businesses who started because they found this group and reached out,” he said. “That’s what I’ll remember most.”

Now, with SPCF under new administration, Vergin is focused on expanding PV Maintenance Monthly, the digital magazine he founded to continue the mission of cleaner-to-cleaner education and industry advocacy. The magazine’s July issue, releasing July 1st, is titled “The Mid-Season Survival Guide” and includes original articles, tactical advice, and a spotlight feature on one of the country’s most prolific solar panel cleaning professionals.

“The group was a home for me,” Vergin said. “But this magazine—that’s where I’m putting my voice now. It’s where we can go deeper, be more direct, and continue pushing this industry forward.”
